After spending almost ten years as a competitive gymnast and a former WV Gymnastics State All-Around Champion, I always hoped to continue my career at the collegiate level, most recently finding the sport of acrobatics & tumbling. Over the past few months, I had researched and visited many schools with this sport, interviewed with several coaches, and finally decided to sign a National Letter of Intent with Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. When I first visited the school, I felt at home on their beautiful campus. Converse is a small school, with an enrollment around 1000 students, which is exactly what I was looking for in a school. Another reason I liked the school was because of the location in the south! Finally, the most important factor in my decision was the head coach, Coach Keegan Johnson, and the members of the Valkyrie Acro/tumbling team. Coach Keegan was so great to work with throughout the recruitment process. She kept in contact with me almost weekly by text to see if I needed anything or had any questions but never pressured me for a decision. When I met her in person, she felt like a big sister, welcoming me to the campus and introducing me to the team. When I toured the campus, many of my future teammates met me in the parking lot, greeting me before I even got out of the car! Since then, they have continued to keep in contact with me. At Converse, I intend to major in biology or biochemistry in their pre-medical program. While at Uniontown Area High School, I have been a member of the Red Raider Marching Band as a Raiderette for four years, serving as assistant captain last year and captain this year. I have also been a member of the varsity track and cross country teams for the past two years and was selected as a cross country captain during this past season. I participate in both the Math Team and Spanish Club, am a member of the National Honor Society, and currently have a cumulative GPA of 4.29. Outside of school, I am involved with several community organizations including Girl Scout for 13 years, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) for two years, a volunteer with the American Red Cross’s Blood Leader Program, and have worked part time at the Mountain Fellowship Center since 2017. I would like to say thank you to my teachers, coaches, and family for helping me get this far and although I’ll miss my Red Raider family after I graduate, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me at Converse College!
