The A.J. McMullen Red Raiders attempted 38 foul shots against the Bethlehem-Center Bulldogs on Tuesday in route to a 41-31 victory. The Bulldogs were tagged with 24 fouls during the contest. The Red Raiders shot only 38% from the charity stripe (including just 25% in the first half), but a strong third quarter gifted A.J. McMullen with an eleventh conference win this season.
The Red Raiders were guided through this game by Tanner Uphold and Levi Gilleland. Uphold and Gilleland combined for 26 of the Raiders’ 41 points, scoring 15 and 11 points respectively. Tyler Hawk and Braxton Swaney each contributed four points, while Ryley Umbel added three points. Wade Brugger chipped in two points off the bench, while Chase Murray and Riley Joseph each added a point.
The Red Raiders had defeated the Bulldogs in November by a single point. Tanner Uphold did an excellent job in one-on-one coverage in this rematch against the Bulldogs’ high-scorer from the earlier contest. Braxton Swaney delivered a great block at a critical point in the fourth quarter of this game, ending the Bulldogs’ final serious attempt to rally.
The A.J. 7th grade team was unfortunately defeated in a second game.
The A.J. McMullen Red Raiders will visit Mapletown on Thursday to hopefully avenge a loss earlier in the season.
